Around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Police were called to the Waffle House on the 1500 block of North Beckley Avenue, after reports came in of an armed robber holding up the restaurant. Customers told police that the man entered the building, armed with an AK-47 and robbed many of the people inside, as well as robbing the restaurant.
One of the customers who was robbed happened to be a licensed gun carrier, and he wasn’t about to take this nonsense without doing something about it. Fearing for the safety of his wife an the other patrons at the Texas restaurant, he jumped up and ran after the man who had taken off into the parking lot. The customer called after the suspect, who then turned around and took aim with his rifle. The customer quickly raised his gun and shot the suspect several times.
The suspect, who has been identified as 26-year-old Antione Devon Cooper, was found laying in the parking lot when police finally arrived. Cooper was taken to a local hospital, where he is currently on life support. The customer who shot the man has not been charged, since it is legal in the state of Texas to use deadly force to defend a third party.
