At least 61 people are dead and over 200 have been wounded as an explosion ripped through a demonstration of hundreds of people in Afghanistan’s capital of Kabul. A group of people were gathered near the Afghan Parliament building and the Kabul University. The victims who were at the demonstration were a group of Shiite Hazaras who were demanding that a major regional power line be rerouted through their home province.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack, proclaiming that two if its fighters detonated explosive belts during the march. There was a third bomber who was killed by security forces before he was able to detonate his explosives.

President Ashraf Ghani released a statement condemning the blast, the Associated Press reported. “Peaceful demonstrations are the right of every citizen of Afghanistan and the government will do everything it can to provide them with security,” Ghani said.
