At least 3 people are dead and 1 left in serious condition after a shooting at the Berrien County Courthouse according to witnesses on the scene. It appears that a man disarmed a deputy as he was being led to jail and opened fire killing 2 bailiffs and severely injuring a Deputy Sheriff. The incident happened around 2:30 pm earlier today.

According to a local news station who are on the scene, Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey said that those who were injured in today’s attack were taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph for medical treatment. He also stated that “brave officers” were able to take down the shooter who was an in-custody inmate. The identity of the inmate has not been released, but it is confirmed that he was also killed in the attack.
Michigan governor, Rick Snyder, says that state police have secured the scene and an investigation is under way, although the courthouse remains under lockdown.
MSP has secured the scene at the Berrien County courthouse and started its investigation into the shooting that occurred this afternoon.
