Meet Misty Snow: The First Transgender Person To Run For Congress

Voters in Utah have chosen a largely unknown Democratic candidate to challenge Sen. Mike Lee this November. Misty Plowright, a.k.a “Misty K. Snow” is the first ever transgender nominee from a major party to run for a seat in the Senate. Ifi she is elected, will be the first transgender person to ever run for Congress.

dt.common.streams.StreamServerMisty is a 30-year-old Salt Lake City native who gathers inspiration from Bernie Sanders’ policies, and hopes to boost the working-class people such as herself. Misty is a cashier at a local grocery store, and despite not having gone to college, she is confident that she is the right pick for the Senate. Despite her lack of credibility, she has an overwhelming percentage of support from her fellow Utah residents. In dead-on Bernie Sanders fashion, she is calling for $15 per hour minimum wage, paid family leave, legalized marijuana, criminal justice reform and free college education!

Misky+K+Snow+1Snow began living life openly as a woman in October 2014, and believes that being a transgender person will attract enough attention to gather enough money for her campaign. In unofficial primary returns, Snow had a 59.4 percent to 40.6 percent lead over Jonathan Swinton. Snow was quoted as saying “A lot of people have told me whether I win or lose, I’m already making a difference just by running.”

What are your thoughts on Misty Snow? Is this a groundbreaking historical event, or is she perhaps just a bored cashier who wants her 15 minutes in the limelight?
