A Georgia Walmart is under fire after the bakery staff refused to make a cake featuring the “thin blue line” flag for a police officer’s retirement party. To make matters worse, the manager delivered a horribly decorated cake after promising to make things right.
The store is located in McDonough, Georgia, just 30 miles southeast of Atlanta where the workers at Walmart allegedly refused to make the cake for a party last Friday night.
Todd Starnes of Fox News spoke with the daughter of the retired police officer about the incident. She asked that Starnes not mention her name in the article.
“I was so shocked,” the woman said. “I didn’t know what to do or say or anything. I was trying not to lose my temper or make a scene.”
She offered an alternative design to the cake decorator, a black cake with a blue line through the middle, but that request was also denied
“She said, ‘I don’t feel comfortable doing this,” the woman claimed. “I asked her, ‘Is there something wrong with cops?”
After she was rejected a third time, she decided to find another bakery. “I was disappointed,” she said. “I go to Walmart all the time — at least once a week, spend hundreds of dollars. I just wanted to make my dad a cake to show how much I appreciated him.”
A friend of the family posted on Facebook following the alleged incident.
“So the manager told me that he would decorate it — but it looked terrible,” the police officer’s daughter said. “It doesn’t look professional.”
“I work in retail,” she added. “If I didn’t want to deal with a customer — and said ‘No’ — I would get fired.”
Unfortunately, the party was held on Sunday, Sept. 25th and she had no time to go anywhere else. There has been no word as to the disciplinary actions taken to correct the situation from Walmart officials.
