Early this morning, dispatchers responded to a call from one of their own, St. Craig Hutchinson, who was shot at his home in Round Rock, Texas. Hutchinson, who had been on the force for 32 years, radioed for help shortly before 1:30am this morning, and was found laying bloodied in the backyard of his home. He died shortly after from his injuries at Round Rock Medical Center.
“He was my field training officer,” Hamilton said.”So this is near and dear to me. This guy was a big teddy bear and everybody loved him. He was a gentle bear and he taught me everything I know…I loved that guy to death.”

The police are currently searching for two suspects. Sherrif Greg Hamilton says “there’s no suggestion” that this was an ambush situation, and it is more likely that Hutchinson walked in on a burglar who was attempting to steal from his shed.
The block where the shooting occurred remained ringed with yellow tape and red tape surrounded Hutchison’s home, more than six hours after the shooting. Authorities could be seen working in the area around the home. Police later briefly closed portions of Interstate 35 heading into Austin as a long procession of police cars transported Hutchinson’s body to the medical examiner’s office.
