A large truck bomb blast has left nearly 50 people dead, and hundreds more seriously wounded in the Syrian city of Qamishli, near the Turkish border. The death toll is expected to rise due to the number of seriously wounded being currently at 145. The attack was the deadliest of its kind seen in that area for many years.
The attack hit near a Kurdish security forces headquarters. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack that struck a complex of Kurdish offices in Qamishli. The extremist group has carried out several attacks like this in the past, but this one is being hailed as one of the deadliest.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the explostion targeted a center of the local Kurdish police and also hit a nearby government building. the explosion was so powerful that it shattered the windows of shops in a nearby town across the border.
