Thailand, over the past few years, has witnessed an increase in high-profile murders and mysterious deaths to those who have sought the serenity that this beautiful country is known for.
The vast majority of documented incidents have involved mostly tourists from the United Kingdom, raising concerns about Thailand’s safety as a tourist destination. Other westerners have also been singled out as small bands of thugs wait for unsuspecting tourist to cross their paths.
Many of these crimes and deaths often go unreported, due to the local political system and police being corrupted. Some of the hottest zones which pose a threat to visitors include the provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat,?and Songkhla on the Thai-Malaysian border. These are high risk areas which are prone to terroristic attacks and dangers to tourists.
“WITHIN 20/30 METRES OF LEAVING THE BAR, THEy WERE PUNCHING THE 65-YEAR-OLD OLD LADY IN THE FACE!! THE ELDERLY GENTLEMAN WAS DOWN ON THE FLOOR, & THEIR SON WAS BEATEN VERY BADLY!!!…
“NOT ONE PERSON (OTHER THAN MYSELF) CAME TO AID THESE OLD FOLK, & THEY ENDED UP LAID IN THE ROAD BLEEDING,” A WITNESS STATED
In a recent attack, an elderly couple and the their son were the latest victims of a horrific incident which resulted from simply brushing shoulders with a local man while walking thru the market. Lewis Owen, 68, wife Rosemary, 65, and their son Lewis, 43, all from Glasgow, Scotland were walking down a busy street in the resort town of Hua Hin which was full of tourists and locals whom were enjoying the current Buddhist new year celebrations.
Hours later they would wake up in a local hospital trying to figure out what went wrong. A witness stated that, “Drunken Thais were “Primed” to attack Westerners after a long alcohol-fueled evening of water fights.” Since the attack, the mother remains hospitalized for observation for serious head and eye injuries and the son received some stitches and since has been released along with his father. Attacks like this are nothing new to visitors, Thailand was exposed to civil unrest which resulted in the military taking control of the government and up until April 1,2015 was under martial law due to political unrest.
“THE DAILY ROBBING, BASHING, DRUGGING, EXTORTION AND MURDER OF FOREIGN TOURISTS ON THAI SOIL, ALONG WITH NUMEROUS SCANDALS INVOLVING UNSAFE FACILITIES AND WELL ESTABLISHED SCAMS, HAS LED TO FREQUENT PREDICTIONS THAT THAILAND’S MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR TOURIST INDUSTRY WILL SELF-DESTRUCT.”- AUSTRALIAN AUTHOR JOHN STAPLETON
So, before packing up your bags, take a moment and look up current political situations wherever your intended destination may be. I was not aware of such turmoil effecting Thailand because all of our eyes have been directed towards our own threats of terroristic activity and our current political involvements throughout the world.
Thailand was never even a thought to me as a place with such interior problems. Also keep in mind that when renting items which need a passport as a deposit, that some of the biggest profits for these crime-stricken nations is passport theft. A passport, depending on where it’s from, yields lucrative bounty for many of these establishments.
