An armed man in Arlington, Texas who claims to be affiliated with ISIS, assaulted and spit on a police officer around 3 pm Tuesday. The man was seen by bystanders threatening a woman with a knife, so they alerted authorities to the man’s location. The officer eventually caught up with 22-year-old Sadek Hamed at a red light, and that’s when things escalated.
Arlington Police Lt. Chris Cook engaged in an altercation with Hamed right in the middle of the street. A bystander says that Hamed was “moving aggressively towards the officer” but since officer Cook did not see any weapons on the man, he holstered his gun and took out his taser.
“The suspect got out, turned away, and the officer tased him,” bystander, Omar Ileiwat said.
Hamed spit on the officer after making “strange remarks” about his ties with the Islamic State. Officer Cook then tased the man a second time, causing the man to fall to the ground. Two bystanders rushed over to assist the officer. Hamed is now in custody of the Arlington county jail and faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assaulting a public servant.
After searching the man’s vehicle, police found an AK-47, a shotgun, and 200 rounds of ammunition. The police have alerted the FBI and the ATF.
